Sikh Environment Day 2017 is a gift to our health and environment. This year we have come up with some different ideas for celebrating this day, but we definitely require your participation as well. Please let us know your plans, and inspire us (and Sikhs around the world) with your actions.
PUNJAB
Muktsar
Vigaas Foundation team in Mukstar has been celebrating Sikh Environment Day by developing 2 kitchen gardens at their village. A team of youngsters are planting saplings and sowing vegetable seeds in Gurdwara premises so that these vegetables can be grown organically and used in Langar.

Guru Nanak Multiversity will be celebrating Sikh Environment day with over 800 schools and creating awareness for the importance of saving water and not using styrofoam and disposables anymore. They are taking this action creating awareness about the harms caused by the plastic to the Earth by showing a short movie/video to the children.

March 12, 2017: Nadar Foundation, Ludhiana will be distributing plant saplings in form of boota prashad at Gurdwara Rara Sahib in order to celebrate Sikh Environment Day and also to bring awareness among the people to save the planet. Different plants with medicinal value will be distributed amongst the sangat at large scale.
March 14, 2017: An awareness rally by students of Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College will be conducted from college to Gill road spreading message to create awareness among the people to save the planet Earth. They will be using placards to display the message and showcase it to the public.
Gurdwara Singh Sabha Sarabha Nagar Ludhiana
March 5th, 2017: Flower Show & On the spot Photography Competition will be held at Gurdwara Sarabha Nagar , Ludhiana being held on 5th March (Sunday) under the theme of “Balehari Kudrat Vaseya”.
Flower Show: The Gurdwara Sahib will hold the flower show and the competition will be open for all Government, semi-Government, Private Institutions and Individuals. The exhibits will be displayed on 4th March from 2 pm to 5 pm without any entry fees.
On the spot Photography: The competition will include 4 categories A,B,C,D with divisions such as under 13 years, 13-17 years, 17-21 years, and above 21 years.
March 14th, 2017: Gurdwara Sarabha Nagar , Ludhiana
Plantation Drive: An extensive plantation drive will be carried out at Sarabha Nagar from 10 am onwards.
Bicycle Rally: Cycle rally will be carried out after plantation drive from 5 pm onwards.
Gurdwara Sahib, Dugri Ludhiana will be celebrating Sikh Environment Day on 14th March, 2017. They will be holding a kirtan darbar at Gurdwara Sahib based on nature theme and a short katha/lecture by Sukhwinder Singh ji. Keeping the health of future generations in mind, they are organizing organic langar to spread the message of pesticide free food.
Gurdwara Sukhmani Sahib Urban Estate Phase 2, Dugri, Ludhiana will be organizing a Plantation awareness campaign’ on account of Holla Mohalla and Gurgadi divas of our 7th Master Shri Guru Har Rai Sahib Ji to memorize their teachings & to Celebrate this day as Sikh Environment Day worldwide. Volunteers of SOW – Sikh Organization of Welfare, EcoSikh, Sikh Relief, Basics Of Sikhi & Shehbaaz Khalsa will also put up a stall at the Gurdwara Sahib to educate people on the need of preservation of environment.

3rd Annual Flower Show ‘SPRINGFEST’ was organised by Doraha Public School and was inaugurated by Master Agamvir Singh and his parents Mrs. & Mr. Jaspreet Singh ( Vigaas Foundation ). More than 40 varieties of seasonal flowers were put on display.
A Samagam dedicated to Guru Har Rai Ji and Sikh Environment Day 2017 is being organized at Gurudwara Shri Kalgidhar Singh Sabha. A Kirtan Darbar by Bhai Satwinder Singh and Harwinder Singh, and many other personalities shared below.
March 14th, 2017: On the holy occasion of the enthronement day of Guru Har Rai Ji, BBSBEC Eco club (managed by the department of civil engineering) is going to celebrate “Sikh Environment Day” by organizing following activities:
February 8th, 2017: SPRING DALE PUBLIC SCHOOL at Patiala is holding a drawing competition based on Nature theme in their school. A poem recitation competition will also be organized by 2nd class students. Apart from these competitions, there are flash cards, a skit by the students of the school and slogan writing also. Students will also be shown environment savings techniques through short movie clips to create awareness among them. The event will be organized by Kawalpreet Kaur and Jagjot Singh.
February 11th, 2017: SUNFLOWER PUBLIC SCHOOL, Patiala will be organizing a poster making competition. In addition to this, there will be slogan writing, sign boards will be created by students of the schools that will be used for rallies. Movie clips on environmental education and tips to preserve environment will be shown to create awareness among the students. The event will be organized by Jatinder Singh.
March 9th, 2017: GOVERNMENT COLLEGE OF GIRLS, Patiala will be organizing a poster making competition. In addition to this, there will be slogan writing, sign boards will be created by the students. A pledge by the students will be taken in March, 2017 and will be celebrated by Home Science Department. The event will be organized by Barinder Kaur.

March 13th, 2017: Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle along with many other Sikh Organizations are celebrating Sikh Environment Day 2017 at Nehru Stadium, Abohar. They are conducting a Flower Show followed by boota prasad. They are also oragnising a Green Hola Mohalla this year.

March 12th, 2017: Commentrating Gurgaddi Diwas of Guru Har Rai Ji, Sangat from Bengaluru will be running for Mother Earth. Two Marathons – half (3.8 kms) and full (7.6 kms) starting at 5:45 am from Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Ulsoor.
March 19th, 2017: Painting/ Colouring Competition for kids will be organized at Gurdwara Sahib in Bengaluru. The children will be enlightened about the environment and harms being done to it nowadays. Also, boota prashad which will contain medicinal plants will be distributed to the sangat.

Assam – Based on “Balehari Kudrat Vaseya”, Sikh community of North East and Assam will take initiative of planting saplings in Gurdwara complex/cleaning of Gurdwara vicinity & various ideas we will share among kids to save mother Earth.

February 27th, 2017: A clean up drive in surrounding area of Kolkatta English High School to be conducted by the students of the school. This drive will be organized to sentisize the students for the preservation of planet Earth and protect them and the fututre generations from diseases
March 14th, 2017: Poem recitation competition for Class V and VI at Kolkatta English High School. This competition will be conducted in 4 languages – Hindi, English, Punjabi and Bengali.
March 31st, 2017: Allocation for Class IV students. A topic will be assigned to the students and after 3 minutes of approximate preparation, they will present themselves.

KENYA
Sangat from Kenya under the leadership of Satinder Kaur will be celebrating Sikh Environment Day with great zeal. They have planned growing of organic food as well as teaching kids how to nurture and grow Gurusahib’s lovely food themselves and organically. They have also scheduled an art competition based on Nature theme and will be trying to spread it to other Gurudwaras too. They will the kids make a poster on:
– Being kind to nature is being a Sikh
– I am a Sikh I love save water
– My promise on Sikh environment Day!
For younger kids, a colouring competition on the files shared by EcoSikh with a foot note they fill on what and how they relate to Nature. The best posters will be awarded as well. A local volunteer, Dilraj Singh will be assisting for promotion of recycling in the other Gurudwaras and how to overcome the challenges.
