Sikh Environment Day 2015 – A Worldwide Event

Welcome to Sikh Environment Day 2015! Last year, Sikh gurdwaras, schools, businesses and communities from all over the world celebrated SED on Guru Har Rai’s gurpurab. This year, join us for a global day of reflection, activism and celebration! Mark you calendars for Sikh Environment Day on March 14th!

Dagshai, Himachal Pradesh: Students performed kirtan on nature and planted saplings around their campus of Dagshai Public School in honour of Guru Har Rai ji on his gurgaddi diwas. They are one of the leading schools that dedicated March 14, to Sikh Environment Day celebrations since past 5 years. God bless the whole school management and team for their passion and sewa in protecting the planet.

6 Institutions of Khadoor Sahib to plan events on the lines of what they did last year and then will share pictures.
Baba Ishar Singh Senior Secondary school, Ranjit Avenue Amritsar to have a plantation and cleanliness drive.
50 Banyan trees 12-15 feet long to be planted in Amritsar through Baba Sewa Singh ji in the coming week depending on location shared by Municipal Corporation Amritsar.

Moga, Patto Hira Singh Wala celebrates Sikh Environment Day today on March 13, showcasing the landscape of the 13 Acre Guru ka Bagh (Guru’s garden) being developed by the village society called PETALS. The villagers and administrators (Sarpanches) from around 10 surrounding villages joined the celebrations.

Panjab University, Chandigarh will be conducting a water audit of their institution.

Gursikh Family Club of Ludhiana: Celebrations on April 1st at E Block Gurdwara in BRS Nagar include painting competition for children, distribution of medicinal plants as buta prasad, film showing on Bhagat Puran Singh’s life “Eh Janam Tumhare Lekhey”

SGPC members and PETALS, a village society from Patto Hira Singh Wala, village of Moga will bring together sarpanches from 36 connecting villages of the area and celebrate the day at Guru Ka Bhag, a historical park and historical Gurdwara of Patto Hira Singh that began on March 14, 2013. 500 saplings will be used for plantation and buta prasad.

Gurmat Gian Missionary College, Ludhiana will organize two lectures for students in their college.

Sikh Riders Club, Jagraon are planning a bicycle rally on March 14th

Tavleen Foundation released a 13 page PDF booklet for March-2013, Sikh Environment Day, dedicated to Guru Har Rai Sahib on his Gurgaddi Diwas  who inspired people to care for nature and who’s legacy provided one of the most inspiring models for our ecological consciousness.

Behala Gurdwara Kolkata will host a powerpoint show, perform kirtan on nature by children, and advocate about SED in Rozana Navi Prabhat.

Guru Nanak Darbar, Dubai will be celebrating Sikh Environment Day beginning from March 18 till next weekend. Exhibitions on Gurbani and Nature will be the part of attraction for the sangat.

Fresno-area Sikhs will participate in Sikh Environment Day 2015 with a recycling program kickoff event at 11 a.m. March 15 at Guru Ravidas Gurdwara in Selma, 2650 Blaine Ave. As part of Sikh Environment Day, the Sikh Council of Central California is asking the 13 Sikh gurdwaras in the Fresno area to start recycling programs. All gurdwaras serve meals to their congregants and visitors on Sundays as well as other days. At the Selma event, the Sikh Council of Central California will present blue, 30-gallon recycling bins with lids to representatives from each gurdwara to get their programs started. Guru Gobind Singh Foundation will be celebrating Sikh Environment day on Sunday, March 15th, 2015. Celebrations will be on March 15th 11:45am-12:30pm. The GGSF Gurmat School will also be participating. All Gurmat School children are encouraged to participate in this wonderful event as assigned by their teachers. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to pay tribute to our 7th master, Guru Har Rai Ji who championed for the cause of greener environment during his time.
