25th June, Amritsar; A new beginning was made today by launching an Interfaith sanitation drive in Amritsar city. As a part of Amritsar Foundation Day celebrations a sanitation drive at Durgiana Mandir, Guru Ravi Das Mandir, Christ Church Cathedral, Khair-Ud-Din Mosque culminating at Santokh Sar Gurudwara was carried out despite heavy rain this morning. The collaborative effort of Eco-Amritsar with stakeholder Baba Kulwant Singh Ajnala Jatha earned the goodwill of all and sundry at these sacred religious centres. Voice of Amritsar also joined cause and participated.
The Head Priest at Durgiana Tirath was delighted by the jathas presence, and supported the sentiment wholeheartedly. Baba ji at the Guru Ravi Das Mandir participated in the cleaning of the Temple (mandir) interiors. Imam Sahib at Mosque Khair-Ud-Din applauded the assistance provided from time to time by EcoAmritsar. Christ Church management was fully supportive and asked for another meeting post AFD for scaling up the program. Gurudwara managements and the Municipal Corporation embrace the effort with open arms.
Said Gunbir Singh, Chairman EcoAmritsar, “ The effort was to involve all faiths in the cleanliness and greenification drive of the Holy City. All faiths must motivate their faithful to maintain sanitation and green spaces in their surroundings. This is the only way a community movement for the entire city will happen. We are hosts to over 25 million pilgrims each year, and are individually answerable to this collective responsibility. Faiths can make this happen, and we beseech each one of them to take a proactive role for Amritsar.”
Children of Bhawan’s SL school and GHPS Majitha Road conducted environmental awareness Flashmobs at 6 locations of the city for Amritsar Foundation Day. Spectators and students at Company Bagh, Novelty Chowk, Town Hall, Alfa Mall, Celebration Mall, and Trillium Mall were enthralled by the enthusiasm of the kids performing on the Satyamev Jayate jingle. Aamir Khan’s foundation has accorded special permission for EcoAmritsar to use their song for cleaning up programs.
Tarundeep Singh, Project Administrator Eco-Amritsar appreciated the support of schools who have organised awareness drives and have committed participation in the Amritsar Foundation Day March on 27 June at 630 AM. Big FM is regularly covering the activities on FM, while the media is lending yeoman’s support for the cause of Amritsar City.
