Dr. Rajwant Singh with John Kerry

Press Release

Washington November 25, 2020 – EcoSikh, a global Sikh environmental group, welcomed President-elect Joe Biden’s stand on climate and making this issue as the center of its domestic and foreign policy agenda. Dr. Gunpreet Kaur, EcoSikh USA President, said, Biden’s commitment to tackle the climate crisis as the centerpiece of its policy making is a major step in the right direction. We are also very pleased to see John Kerry being appointed as the climate envoy by Joe Biden. She added, Kerry’s leadership in Paris Climate Accord was crucial and the world will benefit from him being in the center of this critical issue. With a Biden victory, the U.S. is positioned for a 180-degree turn on climate.

Dr. Rajwant Singh, Founder of EcoSikh and its global President, said, President-elect Biden’s initial actions shows that he considers climate as an urgent issue facing America and the world. The appointment of John Kerry as an American climate czar sends a strong message to the entire world.
Dr. Singh further said, we are also excited that Joe Biden has pledged to rejoin the Paris Climate Accord. EcoSikh is ready to work with the incoming administration to achieve the long term goals on this issue. We will certainly hope that Biden administration works closely with India, China, European allies and Russia to implement the Paris commitments by all nations.

President-elect Joe Biden said his creation of a senior climate post on the National Security Council will put climate change ìon the agenda in the situation roomî for the first time.

Inderpreet Singh, EcoSikh Board member from New Jersey, said, Biden is now positioned to institute climate-focused policies across the government since he made it a central issue in his campaign. America and the world is waiting eagerly for Bidenís leadership on this threat facing the world.
Rasna Kaur Lamba, Executive Director of EcoSikh from Houston, Texas, said, Climate change impacts every aspect of people’s lives, it impacts every aspect of the economy, and our children will be most affected by this crisis in coming times. The time to take action is now. It is our moral responsibility.

Ms. Manpreet Singh, Secretary of EcoSikh, said, EcoSikh’s chapters in India, Canada and UK are actively engaged on climate issues and the Sikh community is globally committed to take action to achieve a sustainable future for the planet. We want to assure our cooperation and support for the Biden administration here in America.

EcoSikh was invited by the State Department and the White House during the Obama administration for many consultations leading up to the Paris accords. EcoSikh was also invited by the French government in Paris by the then French President Hollande.

Biden’s emphasis on curbing the fossil fuel emissions that cause global warming, and on dealing with worsening natural disasters and other problems of climate change is in contrast with the views of the outgoing American administration of Donald Trump.

“America will soon have a government that treats the climate crisis as the urgent national security threat it is,” Kerry tweeted. “I’m proud to partner with the President-elect, our allies, and the young leaders of the climate movement to take on this crisis as the President’s Climate Envoy.”
