27 June, Amritsar; Citizens of Amritsar marched from Sri Akaal Takht Gate, Harmandir Sahib, to Company Bagh early morning today. The March was flagged off by Singh Sahib Giani Gurbachan Singh, Jathedar Akaal Takht, with an ardaas for Asthapana Diwas and blessings for the initiatives of EcoAmritsar for this sacred land. He was especially all praise for the safai sewa conducted by the organisation on various religious sites Of the city including Durgiana Tirath, Guru Ravi Das Mandir, Mission Church Cathedral, Khairuddin Mosque and gurudwaras of Amritsar. Singh Sahib felicitated people of Amritsar, and all faithful across the globe on the Foundation Day of the city.
The procession was lead by horseback riders from Nihang Singhan Kheyala Jatha, followed by people of all walks Of life, NCC cadets, NGO’s and students. Children from the Pingalwara and from the CKD Orphanage also joined the march, which culminated in a Citizens Meet at the historic Ram Bagh Gardens, presided over by DC Amritsar.
Municipal Commissioner Amritsar and Group Commander Col RS Bath were guests of honour. The inspiration of the movement is Bhagat Puran Singh who as an environmentalist, and as messiah of the destitute, was acknowledged as the motivation for action in the city. Stakeholders of the city who have contributed to the cause of Amritsar were felicitated with Appreciation Awards and Saplings.
Mr. Ravi Bhagat, DC Amritsar said, “ The initiatives for the city are laudable. We seek cooperation of all citizens to assist the administration in sustainable development of Amritsar.” He also personally asked each student and citizen to pledge planting and nurturing one tree every year, as also nurture it for three years.
The MC Amritsar, Mr. Pradeep Sabharwal expressed satisfaction for the work being carried out from the grassroot, especially the Waste to Vegetable Program and the Zero Disposal Park project, among others, which are now fully operational. He pledged support for these ventures and asked for continued suggestions for improving civic affairs of the city.

The support from administration, religious organisations, citizens for improving the civic affairs and environment of this sacred land is indeed overwhelming. We look forward to continued action for change aimed at a significantly improved and sustainable city by year 2017.”
